Let Jesus in your boat

“When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea, got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. The sea became rough because a strong wind was blowing. When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were frightened. But he said to them, "It is I; do not be afraid." Then they were glad to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.” John‬ ‭6:16-21‬ ‭ESV‬‬ In this week’s reading, we see Jesus demonstrate His ability to overcome the power of the natural world, which further emphasised His identity as the Son of God. What I think is particularly interesting in this miracle is the fact that before Jesus entered the boat, the Bible tells us that the disciples were frightened. I’m sure we can all identify with this feeling. Whether it be due to issues at work, with family, friends, or internal battles with ourselves, if we are honest, there have been many times when we can safely say that we have felt frightened and that God has been far away from us, a distant image just like Jesus was for the disciples in today's reading.

Thankfully, today’s passage doesn’t stop with the disciples being frightened. As we read on, we see that Jesus enters the boat and IMMEDIATELY, they reach their destination. This suggests that Jesus’s presence in the situation, brought about instant results!  My encouragement for you this week is that the same God whose presence calmed the storm and allowed the disciples to immediately reach their destination has a willingness and desire to be present and active in your life today.  It is my prayer that no matter what your are going through this week, you will invite Jesus into every situation and circumstance, and just as the disciples welcomed Jesus into their boat and saw a dramatic change in their situation, that supernaturally you will experience the same. It is my desire that this week you will accept Jesus’s offer of rest (Matt 11:28) in your lives, so you are able to experience the extent of His power and love for you.  Be encouraged. Allow Jesus in your boat and let Him take control. I promise, you won’t regret it!
