“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:14 ESV
Hello and welcome to our final entry in our advent series. Over the past four weeks we have looked at the concept of advent and how it is still relevant to Christians in 2018. Drawing on themes such as hope, preparation and joy we have been able to use the scriptures to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and increase our excitement regarding Christ's second coming. This week we will finish by looking at the theme of love.
If we were asked to sum up in one word why God the Father sent Jesus to Earth, I’m sure many of us would use the word love. John 3:16 tells us that it was because of God’s love for us why He gave His only begotten Son to die in our place. Today’s reading describes how Jesus (The Word) became a human and lived among the people of the time. During his earthly existence, Jesus’ life and ministry was a demonstration of what Christianity should look like. His miracles, His teachings and His treatment of marginalised groups such as women were all an example of what the Christian life should look like. Through His time on earth, Jesus revealed His Father’s glory. A glory of Grace, Truth, Compassion and Love.
It is my prayer that this advent season and going into 2019, the Father’s glory will follow us and will act as a positive example of the extent of the grace, compassion and love, God the Father has for all of his children.
